Skylar Haynes needs our help Bid on Celebrity Items Here!!! Skylar Haynes is a beautiful little fourteen-month-old girl in Clarksville, Tennessee whose life depends on being able to afford to have an expensive operation. Skylar suffers from a metabolic disorder known as Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, which affects the liver and lungs. The only hope for Skylar to fight this disease is by receiving a $500,000 liver transplant. We have received an overwhelming amount of support from the music and entertainment industry. Many have been very generous with unique donations for the celebrity auction held the night of the concert Dec. 14th '99. Some of the celebrities who have already made a contribution include:
The benefit concert was a great turn-out of supporters. The performances were heartfelt, and full of love for Skylar. Several television channels and radio stations broadcasted parts or all of the event as well. So many wonderful fans gave a fantastic display of support and effort for this needed cause. For this we are grateful. We are also thankful for the continued efforts of the remaining volunteers who are still moving forward with this important mission. Many of the items were auctioned off. But we still have several wonderful pieces left. They are going to be posted with eBay and linked from this page. Jenee Haynes, Skylar’s twelve-year-old sister, was given an assignment at Mahaffey Middle School to compose lyrics to a song. The lyrics to “I’m Hiding a Broken Heart” were then sent to Nashville to be part of a songwriting contest. As the winner of the contest, Jenee’s lyrics were put to melody. After hearing the song, many of Nashville’s top musicians donated their time and talents to record a demo of “I’m Hiding a Broken Heart” in hopes that a major artist would show interest and record it. The song is currently being pitched. If recorded, royalties from the song would aid in the treatments that Skylar so desperately needs.
Alpha 1 Alpha 1 Antitrypsin is the most common hereditary cause of fatal neonatal cirrhosis in infants and children. In the case of Skylar Haynes, the necessary treatment is in the form of a liver transplant. A special account has been set up at the Oak Grove First Union Bank to help cover transportation and living expenses of Skylar and the Haynes family.
